I know there is no S-video output in T60. How do you guys connect T60 to a TV without VGA input?

It might be a great piece of equipment, but it will not help the OP with his problem.

Too much expensive.

You may find some PCMCIA TV card. it is around $40.

What if we wanted to connect to a projector for presentations?

Which port and connector do we need?

Just the VGA port on the left side.

Nevermind...the description of that part describes it as a clone of a Dell part which was intended for laptops that can handle the conversion of the vga to ntsc signal internally. Otherwise you would need a conversion "break-out" box which seems to run $100+ ( a "scan converter").

One interesting thing on my laptop with the Omega video drivers installed is not only does Svideo or composite not show up, but YPbPr shows up as an option. Did a little research and the X1400 is supposed to support internal VGA to YPbPr conversion, with a simple pin to pin adapter. I found one pretty cheap for like 8 bucks. For those who dont know what that is, its a slightly technical term for component video.

Has anyone heard of a serial port to RCA or something?? or maybe serial to Coax? would be a nice find and a quick fix...

That would be S-Video to RCA (1 typically yellow RCA jack = composite video). Unfortunately the T60 does not have an S-Video port as the OP stated. Believe me, a standard Serial Port (RS-232) would never work for video.

You need a "real" VGA to composite or S-Video converter; the passive cable adapter won't work. You might check out the AverKey products. I have an older model and it works quite well. But of course it makes traveling a little more cumbersome.

Yeah...It seems like a pain in the [censored]....so many other laptops out there have the capability to do this..but not the t60/p Kind of depressing when you consider the nice vid card (V5200) i have and HD audio..but no spdf unless you have dock..

Is this one an option?

looks like the adapter to go along with the possible Omega drivers solution for component video.

Is there any possiblity of using DVI-->S-video. Apple has something for thier machines.

I think the triangle cable and omega drivers definitely need to be tried out if they work together since the 1 Foot ... Adaptor looks promising.

I'll have to try the omega ones. Later I'll post a ...gadget from an optoma projector...I'll try it with the omega drivers. Can anyone tell more about them in this (TV/S-Video) respect?

Ordered the cable tonight. Just remembered about it. I will let you guys know if it was 5 dollars wisely spent

Got it tonight, and it does not work Puts out a garbled red signal. Might try working with it, but so far it looks like no.

and averkey will work, even though it will cost a bit.

A much better option is going to be to wait for an expresscard solution. A full on Belkin video unit with VGA, DVI, and svideo along with USB firewire and optical audio out costs 200 bucks, and has its own internal video and audio processing through the expresscard slot. Cheaper solutions will hopefully come around.

1. Won't work with TV's with composite or S-video inputs (as far as I can tell).
2. Will only work with newer TV's with HDMI, DVI or Component inputs.
3. Since the DVI format is DVI-D (digital) you cannot expect to find a DVI to S-video (analog) adapter cable. Hence my response to point number 1.
4. I wouldn't want to carry it around at 7.7" square x 1" thick and 2.4 pounds in weight without hookup cables. Those hookup cables are pretty hefty in size.

Other than the above it looks pretty nifty for home use with newer model TV's. Until June of 2006 when I purchased a new HD TV my previous $5000 TV would not have been able to connect to the Apple TV.

How about because I would like to watch more on my TV than $5 dollar movies off of itunes with sub-par half-HD resolution. Some of us like to watch divx or other movies without having to pay $300 for them. Plus, if you're to spend $299 for a set-top-box video device, why not buy an xbox 360? Then you can download actual HD movies straight to your device's hard drive or stream them from your PC without having to run itunes. Oh yeah, plus you get a next-gen gaming console for the same price. Forgot that part.
