CPU throttling and fan noise

I have T60 2007-FUG and I can't throttle the cpu under about 1 GHz which would help with the fan going on and off every 5 minutes. So can someone help me to either change the temp that the fan goes on or to throttle the CPU frequency down more on XP Pro. I tried from the power manager and 'lowest' and 'low' settings don't have any difference. I now get only 1,8 GHz and about 1 GHz.

Did you set the setting to adaptive in the BIOS? I have a 2Ghz core duo T60 and I get ~995 Mhz in the adaptive mode.

Yep, I have tried everything in BIOS and it didn't work. I also get a little under 1 GHz, maybe about 995 MHz but I can't get it any lower. I would like to get it to about 600 MHz at least for normal desktop use. As I said th problem is that I get _only_ either the max (1,8 GHz) or the half (~ 995 MHz) but nothing in between or lower.

I don't think you can get the chipset in the T60s to go below roughly 995MHz or 1GHz, they simply won't clock that low. Same goes with the T43, which can go down to 800MHz as a minimum, as opposed to the rest of the T4X Series which can go down to 600MHz. :)
