t60p battery won't charge

Hi all,

I have a new ThinkPad T60p--about two weeks old.

A few days ago, the battery was stuck at 46% and would not charge. I ran it down some more, plugged in, and all was fine.

Now it has run down to 8% and will not charge. I've tried to do a recondition, but it has no effect--the machine won't charge the battery at all.

What can I do to resolve this?

ALSO: has anyone tried to access online support? When I try, I am sent out of the Lenovo site and into an IBM site, where I am asked for an ID and password which I don't have ...

<sigh>

Help!

If it was me, I'd call Lenovo and explain the problem, and they'll probably ship a new battery out without much hesitation.

Some other things I might try:
1. Power the laptop off and connect it to AC to see if the battery charges
2. Double-click the Power Manager battery icon on the task bar, go to the Battery Information tab, check vitals there... is battery condition Good?... what is Full Charge Capacity, Cycle Count?. Then, click Battery Maintenance, try tweaking how the battery cycles through charging and discharging... I have mine set to charge up to 95% and start charging when below 25%, which mostly works (sometimes charges to 100%, but not too often).
3. I don't suppose you know someone else with a similar model so that you can swap batteries to see if another battery has the same effect?

thanks ...

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd already been through 'em all ...

I broke down and called Lenovo this a.m. ... interestingly, IBM actually handled the service.

They are sending me a new battery -- by January 29th!!! -- as soon as they get some in stock.
