Will Restore Delete my Custom partition?

#1 Post by af22 » Fri Dec 29, 2006 6:12 pm

I have created a data partition on my thinkpad, if i run the restore wizard will it return my thinkpad to the way it was brand new and redo all my partitions back to factory? Or will my data partition still be there?

Thanks

If you use the on-disk restore to factory option, it will ask whether you want to keep the extra partition.

If you use the Product Recovery CD's, they will erase all the data (and partitions) on your hard drive and install the OS and all the original Factory Software. They will also install the Recovery Partition on a new blank hard drive.

If you have not done it yet, burn a set of Product Recovery CD's for yourself. Go to Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Create Recovery Media (I think that's how it's worded). You can use all CD's (about 7) or 1 CD for the first disk and 1 DVD for the remainder. You only get to do this once until you Restore Factory contents, so use quality media.

If I recall correctly, there is a way to restore on only the C: partition and restore the HPA, but preserve the rest of the HDD with the latest version of RnR.
