Thinking of getting one , but I have few questions:-
a) If I get xphome can that be upgraded to xp pro without lossing the recovery partition or can that be recreated.
b) Is it worth getting the protection service for t60 or standard one year warranty is fine.
c) How easy it is to to upgrade the memory and hard drive as I can get just the base model and upgrade to what I want as if I add all the options the total price goes over my price range.

On the first two questions:
1. I recommend only XP Pro. XP Pro will do anything you need in the way of networking and filesharing whereas XP Home will not. I run across XP Home occasionally, and I can say from experience and without reservation that any savings are not worth it. Buy the T60 with XP Pro installed. Then the service partition will have the right system on it.

2. I recommend 3 year parts and labour warranties with ThinkPads. They are good machines but meant for portability, and sooner or later, many of us have has issues requiring a warranty repair. Again, the 1 year warranty is not worth the savings if you need a hard drive or motherboard for whatever reason.

Upgrading memory is simple. There are instructions everywhere, including movies to guide you. There are only 4 screws to take out, then remove the palm rest and you're there....it just snaps in. Hard drives are simple as well. I wouldn't worry about being able to handle it.

I was trying to keep the cost down with xp home, which is fine for my needs.
Is there a big difference in between 15" flexview vs 14.1
