I've got my T60p notebook several days ago, brand new except that it was without a OS, as I already have a license for XP windows.
First I had some big problems with drivers on XP 64-bit, I couldn't get sound, and the video drivers didn't want to install too. I tried Vista beta too, but it just seemed to me that it requieres too much power from the battery (yes - the drivers functionated, except the video driver), so I decided to put on 32-bit XP with SP2.
Now, it works just fine. The battery seems to last some 2:30 h and the machine is really quite and cool (maybe just too cool
Just a few cons, a noticable flex in the palm area while typing and all in all ot the kind of construction I have expected (compared to my previous R30). Is it really true that it can take up to 100 kg of weight on the notebook ? The construction really doesen't seem to be that strong. I've seen some T4x notebooks with magnesium and titan enforcements, and they really seemed much robust.
In the beggining I didn't get anything by pressing the ThinkVantege button, but later when I got to understand the functions of System Update and downloading most of the updates, I now get the Productivity center opened when pressing it. Is that suposed to open, or something else ? I have a feeling that something is wrong, that I should download/install some other applications.
I also have a problem regarding the LAN. I have installed the required drivers for the ethernet connection, but when transferring data from my desktop PC I have a lot of problems, the speed is ultra low, and mosty it won't finish (for example, I tried to copy a file of 5,5 MB, and It estimated it to 4 minutes, and after a short time it just canceled).
The LAN is operated by a router, and the other PC's work fine.
The internet connection is working just fine via router.
Regarding the fingerprint scanner, is it possible to lock certain folders/ files on the notebook, not just the OS ?
Can I put "normal" drivers for X1xxx radeon series ? As I heared it will improve the gaming performances, as I would like to play a video game from time to time.
When I press the power button, the notebook doesen't shut down ? Is this normal ? Also, when I put the lid down, it turn's off, and again when powering it up it resumes the windows. Ok this is a pretty good thing, just that I'd like it not to "shut down" but just to close, and keep everthing alive and kicking and possibly when running on battery to shut down, as It does.
Where can I change these settings ?
Thank you for your help !
Regards and all the best to you and your Thinkpads in 2007 !
P.S sorry for my bad english, and the possible tehnical mistakes I've made in the text
