DVD Plays on HT Sys but NOT on T60

#1 Post by Kliph » Wed Jan 03, 2007 5:33 pm

Greetings,

I have a DVD that will play on my HT Panasonic DVD player but
not on my T60.

The DVD is a recording of a friends Amateur Theatre performance.
I believe the DVD was burned using Nero.

I have attempted the following:

1. Intervideo/WINDVD - Will not play - I removed and reinstalled the Application - Still won't play

2. DVD Shrink - Advises that the DVD is BLANK
3. DVD Decrypter - Blank
4. Windows Media Player - Won't play
5. Other (freebie) DVD Player - Won't play
6. My daughters MAC - Won't play and assumes DVD is Blank
7. Friends Linux OS - Won't play And Blank

For some reason I suspect a CODEC issue. (I will admit that I am CODEC challenged........)

Any thoughts??

Thx..........Kliph

This does not belong to the T60 thread. But I would recommend you download vlc and Divx codec. VLC is the most comprehensive player that I know of.

Sounds to me that the DVD was burned incorrectly somehow. It cannot be a codec issue if the movie was burned as a DVD-Video, because all DVD's are standardized to use MPEG2 (unless somehow your DVD player can decode divx). It's possible that your DVD player is more tolerant of the errors on the disc and will allow playing of the disc. Because every machine you place it into reports the disc to be blank, I would guess, there is damage to the table of contents in the file system which can result from an incomplete disc burn or an error in the writing process. In this case, installing more codecs will not help, but rather using DVD recovery software such as isobuster to extract the RAW sectors from the disc may be of some use.

Just another thought, as I have made this same error in burning to DVD's from the TV, be sure that the person burning the DVD finalizes it in the burner, as this will make it universal to all players. I recently burned a movie off of TV and forgot to finalize it and it would not play in my T22 but went and finalized it in the burner and now it is fine.
