Considering new T60 Flexview purchase

#1 Post by kiwimeat » Thu Jan 04, 2007 7:20 am

I currently have a T41p and am considering upgrading to a T60 series very soon. Here in Australia we have a limited choice of models and few options for customisation. For instance we only have one basic model of T60 Widescreen available and T60p are much more expensive that other models.

I done a fair bit of research and am currently leaning towards the 2623-A11 model (T7200, 1GB, X1400, 15" SXGA+ IPS, 100GB, DVDRW).

However, I notice that cover is CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic) and not the magnesium that most of the previous generations had.

Can anyone reassure me regarding the build quality?

Any other comments.

my brother has a 14" T4x, not sure which, and we're not professional screen build analyzers, but at a glimpse he pointed out that my screen is sturdier. probably due to the fact that it might be slightly thicker, and/or because it's a flexview.

i'm not sure what i'd be doing with it that i'd need it to be stronger... it doesnt make those weird colors(like the ones when you press on the screen) as much when you bend it a little.

hope that helps

Allen,

Thanks for the reply.

I am pretty much decided on going with the T60 with the 15" Flexview panel. However, in the back of mind I will still be slightly apprehensive about losing the magnesium shell.

For instance, today whilst on a customer site my T41p took a tumble from about 4feet from a bench to the floor of a server room. The Hard Disk caddy detached and the keyboard popped but no other apparent damage thankfully. Made me praise the magnesium shell. Would still like one if the price differential wasn't so great.

Just waiting on a price from our wholesaler - I work for a IBM/Lenovo partner and am hoping for a bit of a discount from the normal wholesale price.

The screen back on my brand-new 15" t60p flexes ever so slightly if you look closely, but nothing (I'm willing) to do to the back of the screen effects the onscreen image at all..

Carbon fiber is an extremely strong material.
