T60p 1680x1050 for real?

#1 Post by rodwilsonsr » Sun Jan 07, 2007 9:35 pm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,
I actually had a not so great experience with a recent compal purchase, after being a thinkpad fan, I was "sold" a compal powerhouse machine. I had nothing but issues with it and ended up pawning it off. Expensive learning experience.
Anyways, I just got my 8744-C9U and I absolutley love it...I will not stray again.
Onto my question. One thing about the compal machine, the screen was a 15.4 and my t60 is a 15.4. The compal had an nvidia card, the t60 has the ATI card. Both machines specs show the display doing 1680x1050.
The compal's resolution was really good and I had plenty of desktop space to put up multiple windows at max resolution. The T60 is set at 1680x1050, but everything actually seems bigger on the screen compared to the compal at the same resolution.
I have not made any changes yet, I am using the factory install. I am wondering if I did a clean install if that would change anything.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the resolution?
Thanks
Rod

easy the font setting in the T60 is different. Try changing it in the display control panel. Larger is easier to read, right :)

Just in case anyone is interested...I did a clean install because this 1680x1050 thing is really bugging me.

here are my results...
After I did a basic XP install I looked at the XP default resolution...the resolution was set at 1400xsomething...I cant remember the second number.

But the way the screen looked was exactly how it looked when i first got the machine. So I installed the Tpad video drivers, the rez was listed at 1680x1050 put the screen size, icon size, everything looked the same size as before I installed the drivers.

I really really really dont think this is 1680x1050. and I have had other techs look at the screen and they dont think so either.

anyone?
Thanks
Rod

I don't think WinXP would be inaccurate about the resolution. Have you gone to "Display Properties" --> "Appearance" --> "Advanced" --> look at the settings for "Icon", "Icon spacing" etc.? The Icon size is usually set at 32, and vertical spacing at 43. If these numbers are increased, then the screen might appear to have a lower resolution.

Another thing to check is to download a 1680x1050 photo from the internet and see if you can view the whole thing without scrolling.

You can try Microsoft Paint it shows you the image offset on the lower right. Maximize the window and draw the pictures until the end and then look at the numbers down right.
