Keyboard, touch-pad dead on half of reboots....

I have a new T60 with a clean install of XP w/ sp2 and all the latest critical patches from MS.
I have installed all the latest drivers from Lenovo and according to device manager everything is up to date and "happy".
The problem:
Approx. half the time I boot up, and a couple times when I've gone from screen saver to the log-in screen, the keyboard and touch-pad dont work. Sometimes it's just the keyboard, and other times it's just the mouse, but usually both.
When neither is working, the only thing I can do is press the power button to get the machine to shut down and then reboot.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Any ideas on what's happening??

Thanks!
S

I would say either a hardware problem (keyboard, keyboard connection) or the "clean" build didn't work. ... JD Hurst

If you are sure about the quality level of the clean build, I would really suspect a hardware problem. Try booting it in Safe Mode, which will allow you to see whether or not at least the keyboard works during the boot up phase and within safe mode. If that still doesn't work, you might also want to try a LiveCD and see if that works with the Keyboard/UltraNav. Failing all the previous would make it a hardware problem which, hopefully, just might be resolved by re-seating the cables for the Keyboard and UltraNav. :)

When I did a clean install, on one of the Windows Updates, a "IBM Synaptics" driver was pushed through as a critical update. After that reboot, my touchpad and touchpoint were not functioning any further. I had to uninstall all IBM related synaptics driver/software pieces showing up in the add/remove programs area, and then get the newest software from synaptics.com.

own6volvos, as an aside, the pure driver download from Synaptics worked?

Not only worked, but scrolling is MUCH smoother than the original was using the IBM supplied driver.

Oh, niiice. Thanks. :)

I think I could give it a whirl on a T4X or a T6X in a little while, with the proper backup images.
