mouse scrolling on its own

One of my users has a strange problem.
They are using a brand new T60P with port rep + usb mouse.
Once in a while (no matter what screen you are on) if she tries scrolling down by dragging the scroll bar (and then letting go) the laptop will scroll back up to the top of the window on its own.
She is not pressing the touch pad, and I even disabled it. I also swapped her mouse but that wasn't the issue either.
Here's another way to explain it. Open a really long webpage. Grab the scroll bar and bring it down to the bottom. Let go and it automatically scrolls itself back to the top of the website.
Any ideas?

Hello
I can tell you I exprience the very same problem from time to time with my T60P. I also thought it had to be the mouse, so I switched it. But now with my brand new mouse it happened again.
I have no explanation for this, also hoping for ideas.

I guess it's just me and you. Can you tell me if you are using a port replicator as well?

It may have to do with the trackpoint (the red cap in the middle of the keyboad), that isn't positioned correctly. Simply remove the cap and the scrolling should stop, then put the cap back on and everything should be working smoothly again.

Hi shlammed,
no, I don't use any port replicator.
Thanks Hanson, that might have solved the problem, I haven't experienced any more problems since. Hope it stays like that.

It's not a "drift" that is happening
this drift happens on my own T41P all the time
What is happening to the user is automatic scrolling of whatever window she is in. You won't even see the mouse cursor move and the screen will start scrolling all the way back to the top of the page on its own. I will try to remove the red cap and see what happens.

For what it's worth, I have the same issue. I do not use a port replicator but I do use a USB mouse. Once in a while, it just likes to snap-scroll way up. I fix it by using either the touch pad or the red finger thingy to move the mouse in any direction even a small amount. It seems that using an alternative input device unlocks whatever silly loop it is in.

A friend of mine had the same problem. When he accidentally touched TouchPad while typing, his text sometimes scrolled away... HE was using USB Logitech mouse.
He solved this problem by unchecking "Virtual Scrolling - Enable vertical scrolling" in TouchPad properties.
