Is my t60 permanantly damaged from heat?

#1 Post by grahamdavis » Mon Jan 15, 2007 4:25 pm

I have a t60 that I use for everything--including programming. I was testing a really demanding program, and I got both cores in my core 2 to go to 100%. The thing is, for some reason my fan kicked on late, causing my processor to blip to about 85 degrees celcius for 10 seconds or so.

I have been worrying and stressing that maybe I damaged my machine. It runs fine, but I am still distraught. I know the processor is rated to 100 degrees c, but because of my high temperature, did I fry any other components? What should I do?

Now that's a real thinkpad-fan, obsessive-compulsive :)

No don't worry the processor is pretty well connected to the heat sink and isolated from the other components. rest assured your thinkpad will last a long time

It will be fine and is covered by warranty at any case. Just be certain that you make frequent backups, that is the important thing.

The processor spec is 100C, you are fine.

There should not be any problem with your latpop. The spec is 100C (which is a bit lower than the actual temp. the cores can take) and even in the worst case, the warranty should cover it - however, please take backups as dfumento said.

I think you are fine. Unless you notice excessive temperatures or poor processor performance, you probably have not burned out the processor.

No problems that I can detect...

What a releif! Thanks for all your replies, I am really greatful for the peace of mind. As for temp and performance, my processor seems the same, and when it runs at full load, with fan on, it stays at about 67.5 degrees celcius.
