Constant HD Access in Idle State

#1 Post by RainerK » Thu Jan 18, 2007 4:38 am

I'm assuming this is a common problem, as I've now seen 2 identical t60p's with this issue. I did search the boards, but found very little to help me. If this has been addressed, pleaes accept my apologies.

Why is it that my T60p, even sitting in an idle state, constantly access the HD with little flicks, (ie green HD access led lighting up, and small reading noise). Is this normal? I had an HP before this, and it did not do this. A friend's T60P also constantly accesses even in idle state.

Is this an issue I can resolve? Or am I just going to have to fill my office with a bit more music and noise so that I can ignore it.

Thanks

This utility

http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/Filemon.zip

will let you see all hard-drive access by program doing the access and file name. It's great for chasing down problems like this.

I'm assuming from this that its likely to be some IBM software, thats constantly ticking there...If i discover it, I'll report back.
