Empty Ultrabay

#1 Post by entropy » Thu Jan 18, 2007 4:52 pm

I removed the optical drive from my T60's ultrabay to see how much weight it saves. It's noticeably lighter and, considering I rarely use the optical drive, I prefer it that way.

Obviously I'd like to keep that bit dust free. Apart from inserting an empty 2nd HDD adapter, does anyone whether there is a 'blank box' made for this purpose?

Travel Cover: FRU #13N5108. It is a "blank" light plastic tray.

$8.16 for the part + $12.5 shipping from Lenovo. Call the part department, not the sale reps.

They have 4 or five times the number of staff there as would be necessary in most businesses. That plastic part actually comes in 12 identical versions each assigned a unique FRU number. It takes manpower to manage a stock like that. On top of that they need people to write those large pamplets that accompany every part, written in 14 languages all of which say, don't take this part into the bathtub with an electric hair dryer or you may be electrocuted.

Thanks EOMtp/DeoDeo :D I'll pick that up for sure.

About the battery, I've heard too many times that the Ultrabay batteries are a bit crappy. (Apparantly it also drains the Ultrabay battery first before it goes onto the main one?). Guess I'd rather invest in a 9-cell at some point.
