Checking or Updating Intel Chipset Drivers for T60p?

#1 Post by speedi » Fri Jan 19, 2007 7:16 am

I am needing to try and update the Intel Chipset drivers for my new T60p (well, 3 weeks old). I downloaded the installer from Lenovo web site, dated 1/18.

If I go into Device Manager, and then go down to System Devices, the two Mobile Intel entries have a driver version of 7.1.0.1015, dated 12/27/2005.

Attempts to run the downloaded file infinst_autol.exe "work" but I don't see where the drivers have been updated to the latest version.

Please advise.

From reading the above, I don't think you should be concerned. Look for the bolded items above in Device Manager.

Right, but I need to update the drivers. According to what I see, the drivers did not update properly using the executable to perform the update.

So, the question remains, how does one update the drivers? It would appear that my drivers were not updated.

Why do you need to update the drivers? If the chipset drivers were already installed from the factory software image; I do not believe you had anything to update. If you are doing a fresh install of Windows, then that is another story.

From looking at the summary of changes, all that appears to happen when updating from the initial release is to change a couple of lines in the registry. Did you look in Device Manager to see if these lines are at the current level?

I am attempting to troubleshoot a screen flicker issue I am having when using Dual External Monitors. These are the only drivers that have not been updated on my system. :) Before I depot the machine for a video card fault, I want to make sure I did everything I could to prevent the raping my laptop will surely received if it goes to depot.

Have you checked the refresh rate for the monitors?

Speedi, I updated the Intel chipset drivers and they do not change the flicker problem. It's still there (I'm running BIOS version 2.09). The only thing I've found the makes the flicker go away is BIOS version 1.09.

If you still want to update the driver manually, follow this link:

Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

I take it this is a different kind of "flicker"?

BIOS rev 1.09? Can I revert to 1.09 after being in the 2.0x versions? Also, is there record as to what versions of BIOS are available?

Yes, it's hard to describe, but the "flicker" I am trying to describe is more like a distortion or screen resolution change that happens for a fraction of a second, on ONE of the dual external LCDs, and then returns to normal. It happens every 20 mins and I find it incredibly annoying.

Lenovo/IBM support wants me to depot the machine so they can replace the system board, but I am afraid this will not address the issue.

Sending in the machine definitely won't fix the flicker issue. I did that several times last year with my T60p. I have a new T60 widescreen which has the same [censored] problem. Very frustrating that it's still not fixed after so many months. I opened a new case with Lenovo today, but they're still clueless about the fix.

I have the depot box at the office, and I have 30 days until I have to turn it in or it will expire. BUT, based on your observations, I'm not sending in my machine to anyone.

Well, this HAS to be prevalent, then. My co-worker has a T60p, made about 2-3 months before mine, and running BIOS 2.07 does not have flicker, he says. I have not actually looked at his monitors, but he is running the Advanced Dock.. not Advanced Mini.

I believe the reason Lenovo is getting away with it is because people are not using dual outputs that often. 8)

To avoid raping, send it in without the hard drive. That's what I do.
