Hi guys

as the fan is really annoying me I installed TP Fancontrol to get rid of the always running fan. Here are my settings:

Level=65 0
Level=70 1
Level=73 3
Level=75 6
Level=77 64

The fan comes on pretty often though and if it comes on, really hot air is coming from the vent which kind of concerns me. Right now it is pretty cool outside but in the summer I am kind of worried.
I have a T60p, is that maybe the problem, cause the GFX produces heat?

So are those settings fine or not?

Hi Starsheep, I wouldn't advice you to have the fan triggered with a 70C temp

My T42p has installed TP Fan Control also with this values:
Level=50 0
Level=52 1
Level=53 2
Level=56 2
Level=65 128

Note that T60/p machines with dedicated GFX chips have a temp of about 55-65C idling. I'd recommend you to set the IgnoreSensors parameter in TPFanControl to exlude the GPU (only if you will not be gaming, otherwise you should set the fan to BIOS Mode to prevent GFX overheating when gaming)
Remember that it's better to have the CPU as cool as possible in order to improve its operating life.

Another advice should be to undervolt a few the CPU, mine from 1.340V to 1.140V using NHC (saves about 3-4C idling).
If you don't need to use the CPU power everytime, I would suggest to use either Dynamic Switching in NHC or Max Battery

Another thing is you could use ATiTool to underclock your GPU core & memory frequency to something like 100MHz

For some reason, ATi Tray Tools' under-clocking does not work well with the X1400 in my T60. If I set speed to around 130/130, the screen shows many errors/glitches. However, Ati's PowerPlay works perfectly fine (I can underclock to 130/130 using that).

My setting is as follows:

IgnoreSensors=GPU

Level=50 0
Level=57 1
Level=64 3
Level=71 7


This setup works even for games. This is because any game will cause the CPU to heat up enough to enter an active cooling mode. When idling, the fan comes on roughly 5 minutes ever 25. Even in games, the fan never goes above step 1. I only put in the rest of the levels for completeness sake.

thanks for the advise, but if I use your settings the fan will be on almost all the time and I'd like to prevent that because of the whining of the fan.
Thats why I set it that way, but I will try it out, also I think the fann will then be on all the time.

Any other opinions?

Is that better?
