Wireless 11abg and Network Lan
Wireless 11abg and Network Lan
hello to all.
I have tried accesing the internet using 3945abg while connected to my network lan via ethernet cable but I cannot connect to the internet.
The wifi abg works fine when I unplug the ethernet connector. Am I missing a setting here.
Thanks

thanks dorin.
i have edited access connections to use only the 3945abg adapter but still i could not connect to the internet.
i had to disconnect the ethernet so i can access the forum.
any other suggestions that i should be doing. is there a setting i can do to ie7 to force it to use the 3945abg connection instead of the lan connection.
thanks in advance.

I don't know the topology of your wired network. You may have an issue with different subnets between the wired and wireless and/or DNS servers not present on the wired or incompatible with the wireless DHCP-provided addresses.
Is the wireless connection you are trying to establish connected through the same network as your wired network? Specifically, does the wired network use the same DHCP server as the wireless network?
What is the IP address you receive on the wireless? Is the address on the same subnet as the wired network?

No, they have different DHCP servers. Is the wireless connection you are trying to establish connected through the same network as your wired network? Specifically, does the wired network use the same DHCP server as the wireless network?
i did in ipconfig/all command and have found that i have two different ip addresses and two different subnets. What is the IP address you receive on the wireless? Is the address on the same subnet as the wired network?

I think you have found the problem. Verify that you have valid DNS servers provided by each DHCP server.
Try the following:
See if you can connect to http://www.yahoo.com ... then see if you can connect to http://66.218.71.84
If you cannot connect to the name but you can connect to the number, then you have a DNS issue.

thanks for the responses EOMtp
i'm just wondering why i can connect to the internet using the lan connection with the wireless on but i could not connect to the internet using the wireless connection with the lan plugged-in. in both situations, i have different ip's and subnet masks.
thanks
i could not connect to both.See if you can connect to http://www.yahoo.com ... then see if you can connect to http://66.218.71.84
