Shouldn't 64-bit T60's come with 64-bit Windows?

I purchased a Duo 2 Core T60 in November, but I'm unsure about this. It is definitely a 64bit processor (as I have run 64 bit Fedora on it). But the Win XP installation is 32 bit. Doesn't that completely waste its 64 capabilities?

If so, then I guess I will upgrade to 64bit Vista.

Advice appreciated. My knowledge of these things is not great.

Not all apps work with 64-bit Windows, and driver availability is still spotty, so Lenovo has decided (prudently) to continue to ship 32-bit Windows XP on even the 64-bit-enabled ThinkPads.

Vista would probably be a reasonable time to consider moving to 64 bits, though at this time the number of apps that actually take advantage of the 64-bit mode (rather than using the 64-to-32-bit WOW layer) is quite limited.

Through work, I was am to get XP-64 and installed it on my
desktop, it lasted about 1 hour before I restored back to XP-32.
Even though I had all the drivers for XP64, it was slightly unstable.
