Unfortunately my T60P 2007-94U keeps on the fan from the advanced dock (which does not hold any card for the moment) which makes it quite noisy.

Is there a way to disable it ? at the hardware or software level?
If yes, how?


By the way, all the keyboards on the T60 are cranky or is it just mine? I also own a T42 which has a much smoother keyboard.

I too have the advance dock and I like it quite a bit. I got this keyboard from eBay:

(cheaper than you see here), but it has the exact same layout as I'm used to on my thinkpad, and the cord has a place to live inside so it easily fits in my laptop case if I travel. It also has a spot for 2 usb devices (usb 1.1). Ultranav is what I was looking for the most, and this keyboard has it. It's also not so bad if I spill something on this, vs my actual laptop keyboard!

As for the dock itself, there is a fairly large (and empty) compartment in the back, but none of the literature explains what all that room might be for! It looks like some sort of peripheral card would fit in there since it looks like there's a slimline connector, but I have no idea what types of cards I could get that could go there.

I don't think my fan runs continuously, but then again, I'm deaf so the sound doesn't really bother me much.

There are two fans in the Advanced Dock.

One in the PCI-Express card bay. There's a connector inside the bay that supplies the fan with power. Just pull it out.

The other is the main fan. To "disable" the main fan, I bent a paperclip and used it to reach through the fan vent slots and hook one of the wires (I grabbed the red on) and then I pulled it out enough to snip it with scissors.

After almost 10 months of continuous use (with a video card in the dock), I've had zero heat problems. But, just to be safe, I left the cover off of the PCI-e bay so the video card can passively cool.

About the Video card, which one do you currently use (I will buy the same model )?
Also, in that configuration, do you have the flicker that I have and that is reported by other users (every 10-15mn)?
