hi there,

i'm using a t60 2007 type and i'm wondering if its normal that the booting time should take that long... i "pimped" the startup phase a bit up by removing some stuff like the boot sequenses from itunes and other non-important applikations but my machine is still really slowly booting, my powerbook g4 is even faster and that one is 4years old already... would be great if you could help me out, bcs this is kind a annoying......
i'm using the pre-installed norton stuff and all other applications which came with my notebook so i think i dun have to tell more about them bcs you folks should have them aswell :)
thanks for your hep and inputs for me...

First, define "that long".

I think I know what he's talking about. When I got my T60p (2GHz, 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm drive) and got it set up identical to my Gateway 7508GX that had a 2.2GHz Athlon64, 1GB RAM and a 80GB 4200rpm drive (on the same domain for work and all software installed the same way) I noticed that the T60p seemed to boot to the login screen slower than the Gateway and also took a little longer (10-15 seconds difference, MAX) to get to the desktop with everything loaded and ready to rock.

Once in Windows though, the T60p runs apps much faster than my Gateway did. It was just the bootup process was slower.

I achieved a startup performance gain on my X31 this way:

1. Deactivate Task Planer Service
2. Run Bootvis -> Click Optimize System
3. Bootvis restarts computer in an unbelievable fast speed

4: Bootvis normaly restart itself and does some tweaks which results in little performance gains compared to normal, but not as fast as at step #3. I think because of the deactivated Task Planer, Bootvis doesn't restart after the reboot and the changes it makes are kept.

I did not notice any problems since I did this (months ago) and the bar under the Windows Logo goes only 2 times around! awesome startup speed. Have a try!

I only reboot my R52 to install hardware. The rest of the time I hibernate it, and it restarts in about a minute. I'm a little amazed that Win XP Pro is stable enough to do this.
