BIOS settings.

#1 Post by nrgetik » Thu Jan 25, 2007 12:30 pm

I don't have my laptop at the moment, so bear with me.

I remember seeing some options in power management in the BIOS. One said "Battery Optimized" and the other said "Maximum Battery" or something of the like. What is the difference?
IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T60P
T7200 2.0GHz 4MB L2 667MHz FSB Core 2 Duo (Merom)
2GB DDR2-667 (2x1024)
60GB SATA-150 7200RPM
ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 (256MB)
14.1" SXGA+ (1400x1050)
Bluetooth / Atheros ABG
Etcetera.

I want to say that these options are there for legacy purposes. Most modern OS'es include power management settings that will override these settings from the bios. Basically, I think they are there so you could set a low power mode if the OS does not know how to.

question though:

If modern OS overrides the BIOS setting, is the override only in effect if the OS is running?

Perhaps this may explain the charging issue observed by many people that battery charging will only obey the customized threshold only AFTER the computer is on, and not when the computer is off.
