Thinking of buying a new T60p and asking for advice/insights

Hello all. This is my first post, so please be gentle ;-)

I'm looking to upgrade my system and would love to buy a new T60p, but am concerned with Lenovo's direction and build quality for new systems. I was shocked to learn that the 15" UXGA Flexview doesn't seem to be offered on the new systems... this has been a major reason I've used Thinkpads for so long. I've considered getting a Dell Precision M90 or an HP NW9440. Both with 17" 1920x1200 LCDs (but not IPS) and high-end Nvidia graphics... better Linux/BSD support. I was leaning toward the HP... which is most "Thinkpad" like. The only thing stopping me is the lack of an ExpressCard-54 slot. If I'm going to spend that much money, I like the system to be as "future-proof" as possible. Both have great reviews, but the Dell is, well, a Dell.

Having said all that, I'm considering buying a new T60p and am asking for your collective insight. I've read some posts on this forum and have looked over the new(er) Lenovo site... it's changed since I bought my T42p a couple of years ago. When you go to configure your system.. or at the least the system I would like, it comes up with a model number of 2613-CTO. I don't see any options for purchasing the differently configured systems, like say a 2007-94U, for example. Also, the price for the system I'm configuring is surprisingly low... about $2300 for a well configured system (C2D T7400, 2GB, 15" SXGA+ Flexview, DVD Recorder, WiFi A/B/G, BT, etc.) I guess my question is, is the self-configured system (2613-CTO) of the same quality/robustness as the 2007-94U? I've read on this forum about Lenovo possibly using lower quality components in some systems. How do the new T60p systems compare in quality to the older T42p systems? I'd like to upgrade, but not at the expense of quality. Quality is the reason I buy top of the line Thinkpads. If I do take the plunge, there are a couple of sellers on EBay where you can buy the Hydis 15" UXGA Flexview for under $300. How hard is it to replace the LCD on the Thinkpad yourself? There is a 2007-93U system on EBay for about $2400. It has a CD T2600 and the 15" UXGA Flexview. If it were you, would you buy the older system and possibly upgrade the CPU to a T7400 or T7600 in the future or buy a new system and possibly upgrade the LCD?

Any advice or insights you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you.
