Question about sound on T60p

I have my laptop connected to my stereo receiver via the headphone jack, as I use to it play CDs and mp3s in my apartment; I've just finally migrated over to my new t60p from an old R32, and I've noticed, surprisingly, that the output signal appears to be much weaker from the t60p; ultimately, with the laptop volume at 100%, I have to turn up my receiver about twice as much as I did with the R32; even when just listening with headphones, I find that the volume is relatively low when turned up 100% (especially when compared with my R32);

I can't imagine that there's anything wrong with the hardware, as the sound quality is fine; do other t60p owners experience the same weak volume on their system?

Ultimately, I plan on purchasing that Creative Audigy card anyway, but I guess it's just disappointing that my old R32 gets twice as loud as my new T60p.....(and yes, I listen to a lot of loud music, but I'm not going deaf.....yet ;)

There are two volume levels that work in concert with each other.

- First adjust the Thinkpad volume to about 2/3 max via the buttons at the top of the Thinkpad's keyboard.

- Then adjust the Windows volume. If you don't see a speaker icon at the bottom right of your screen (traybar), then go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and double-click on "Sounds and Audio Devices". Once open, you can click on "Place volume icon in the taskbar" and press OK.

Double-click on the speaker icon and adjust your windows volume. You may need to adjust several of the levels to get it right.

Tip: If you single-click on the speaker icon, you can adjust the master Windows volume without opening the larger Volume window.

Same problem here, the sound is really really low.

I already checked the windows sound before but no luck at all.
All levers are at max

Any suggestions

Are you using Windows Media player Winamp etc etc to play the cds? If so which one yadda yadda yadda. Just a bit more info so I can check it out. I have a few T60s at my disposal to play with.

thanks to RonS; I feel like a real jackass, but it turns out that the "Thinkpad" or "system" volume was rather low, while the "Windows" volume was at max; I increased the former to achieve a much more acceptable level for my external sound system...still thinking about the Audigy card, however....

In any case, thanks for pointing that out....not exactly very intuitive to have two discrete volume levels....
