Wake up at a certain time from hibernation and perform Task

#1 Post by gettingDeep » Wed Jan 31, 2007 4:11 pm

Greetings !
I'm trying to do a weird thing. I want my T60P to wake up at a certain time from hibernation and perform a task. Its fairly easy if the machine isn't sleeping. But was wondering if there is a utility [in-built/3rd party] which would do this.

Any ideas welcome !!

http://www.networkautomation.com/automate/

I use Automate to do this. Or create a script and save it as a Job in the Job scheduler.

You can create a Scheduled Task (in Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks) that will wake a computer from Standby. AFAIK, the only way to wake a computer from Hibernation is by sending a "magic packet" via the ethernet cable.

Thanks vision33r & GomJabber.

I tried the scheduled tasks, but if the lid is closed, it doesn't wake the laptop from stand-by mode.

I found this utility called WakeupOnStandBy but, same result, maybe I should try with the lid up.

Great hint about the "Magic packet", thanks let me research it.[/b]

I just tried it on my T42, and it wakes up fine with the lid closed while in Standby. Make sure on the Settings tab of the Scheduled Task, under Power Management that the box is checked to: Wake the computer to run this task. When setting up a Scheduled Task using the wizard, check the box to: Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish. This will bring you to the Settings tab.

Hibernation means that the computer is turned completely off, except for a small listening circuit on the network port that listens for the "wake on LAN'' magic packets and that can then turn on the power to the system if such a packet is detected.
