Thinkpad Advanced Dock, T60p and Vista

#1 Post by planetf1 » Thu Feb 01, 2007 5:42 am

I have Vista x86 RTM installed on a T60p. I've installed most of the lenovo drivers & the system basically works great.

However when I insert into (or boot when on) the Advanced Dock, I find
- USB devices attached to dock do not work
- Drive in dock ultrabay is not found
- The red "no entry" LED on the dock is not lit

However
- The system does charge
- The LED "lock" icon (physical key lock) is lit
- the monitor attached to the dock works fine (passthru?)
- mouse/keyboard attached direct to system unit work fine

This worked fine under XP... (which Is should boot to check it's not broken I guess). I have latest fw as of a few weeks ago

Ideas?
Drivers? First thought was intel chipset stuff, but I've installed that. Something else specific to check?
Firmware on dock?

Ok, if you've seen the UK series "The IT Crowd" you'll wonder whether I remembered the dialog

[Roy receiving a tech support call, answers after 15 rings with a sigh]]
Roy: Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Well I powered the DOCK off, and on, and it's now working correctly with vista. Umm..

Ok, it's gone bad again. And a power cycle addresses it again,

So something is messing up the dock. I have one of the early ones, could it be a problem with the dock itself?

Have you tried touching the metal connector on the dock before docking the ThinkPad? Others have noted issues with the dock and static electricity and this may be just one more instance of that. I have been having problems when docking such as a keyboard not working or USB devices functioning erratically and I am testing the theory that it is the static electricity problem by always grounding the dock to my body before putting the ThinkPad in the dock.

I have not, I was hoping the repair kit would be available soon. Worth a try though.
