About warranty

#1 Post by Stevesoura » Sat Feb 03, 2007 2:45 am

I tried to google this questions but could not get a straight answer. I just bought a t60 two weeks ago from another seller. I am hearing that the warranty will transfer, but wanted to know how to get that done in my name. Or does it not work that way. Do I have to register this laptop with Lenovo/IBm. Thanks in advance.

The warranty belongs to the ThinkPad regardless of who owns it.

so you mean the warranty is dependent only on the machine's S/N and is thus not personal then? but don't they ask for a receipt in order to determine when the warranty began?

IBM and now Lenovo have always looked poor and greedy on this one. They assume the warranty starts when it leaves their warehouse. Tough luck for you the unwitting, gullible consumer if you don't know that. If you *do* know (I know), you send a fax to POP Admin at IBM with a copy of the purchase invoice and they will adjust the warranty dates to coincide. I have been doing that on personal machines since 2003. But yes, it just depends on the machine. ... JD Hurst

Great! I had that question troubling my mind recently.
So basically, i can just buy one second hand and not worry too much about getting it repaired.

Cool!

Thanks :)

ibmthinkpad99: If you call IBM at 1-800-IBM-SERV with your model and serial they will tell you the last day your warranty is valid.

kamaleon: I'm not sure how the warranty works in France, hopefully you can call them up and get the same info.

So, when you send the machine for warranty, you will only need the serial number of it, but not reciept, right?

As long as you send it in before the production date-warranty run out.
(if it's a computer that was in stock at a warehouse for months before you buy it, you'd ask for the receipt)
