I Cannot unlock my Windows --- HELP URGENT

#1 Post by rqutub » Sun Feb 04, 2007 4:25 am

Good Morning,

I got my new T60 thinkpad last week. Everything is working perfectly with me. But the only thing is, when I try to unlock my windows (lets say when I leave the computer for 10 minutes) I cannot unlock, it asks me for the password or fingerprint, and then the desktop background appears but no icons and I cannot do anything... At this time I have to hard boot the laptop!!!!

Please help.
Rami

See if you can activate Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del simultaneously.

If you can, then go to File-> New Task ->C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe

If you can't, then I recommend to do a factory restore.

this is because the screensaver gets active and after that he wants the password for access. you can just switch it off at the screensaver settings....

I had a similar problem which turned out to be caused by a conflict between Thinkpad Away Manager and Kaspersky Internet Security.

I uninstalled Away Manager and the problem disappeared.

If you do not have a logon password set, then try just pressing the ENTER key when it asks for your password.

Try right clicking on your desktop go to properties. Click on the screensaver tab. See if there is a checkmark where it says "On resume. Password protect. If there is Remove it.

Thanks!!

Couldnt you just lock the PC when you walk away? :P I will do some testing on the t60s I have here and see if they have anything like that happen to them.

Call 800-IBM-SERV the warranty support service. That is what they are paid for.

Does this happen only when the screensaver locks the screen or does it also occur when you manually (CTRT+ALT+DEL>Enter) lock the system and then attempt to access it?

Does it also happen when the system resumes from sleep mode with a password required?

Are you on a Domain Server of any kind? Only thing I can get close is letting the screensaver go with a password. Upon resuming I have to put in the password no problem. However after I let it sit longer then 30 minutes Our Domain logs us out therefore I must log in twice. Once with the Screensaver password and once with the windows password to get back on my domain server. I am not sure why yours is locking up. I would suggest a backup of files and try a fresh install. Or just disable the screen saver and hit WINDOWS-L to lock your computer When you walk away.

Thanks!!

I reccomend you to uninstall CSS that's what is making the conflict i had the same experience because it forced me to shut down by pressing & holding the pwr button. but leave the finger print which it has not problem and you can unlock successfully after resuming from standby.
