ATI drivers won't install ?

When i tried to install the latest drivers for my gfx card ( ATI fireGL V5200 ) on my T60p, I visited the ATI-site and ended up here
http://ati.de/support/drivers/xp/fireglv-xp.html .

I downloaded them, and when i had to extract the drivers it asked me to extract them in c:\AMD\... ( I don't know if this is normal or not considering i'm on an intel machine...)
And the icons were all AMD icons. :?:

Anyway, when I got to the install wizard, before even starting I got an error telling me this:
There are no parts found that can be installed with the current hardware and software configuration.
Check if you've got the neccesairy hardware or software.

only lenovo (downloaded from lenovo update) drivers are supported by your graphics.

It's not true that only Lenovo graphics drivers are supported by the Thinkpad. However, it seems to me that it's possible that you've downloaded the regular FireGL drivers, while you may need the Mobility FireGL drivers. Omega drivers should also work.

I can't for the life of me get any ATI or Omega drivers to recognize my v5250. I've read of some people on here with v5200's getting it to work.

Anyone get v5250's to work with non-lenovo branded drivers?

Thanks for the link!

I tried both version of Patje's mobility modder in combination with the Omega drivers. I was hoping the Omega drivers would alleviate the crashes my system experiences during demanding graphics operations.
The install process seems to go smoothly, but the drivers never actually work (and the v5250 isn't identified afterwards by XP.)

Unrelatedly, towards the end of the procedure, my brand new T60p's Hitachi 100gb started giving me I/O errors (hundreds of instances of Event 51 in XP event viewer).
It now fails a pc-doctor linear verify test, and I'm having trouble getting my work off the drive before it does any more damage to itself.

Ugh.
