I use both Mac and PC as well. The PC is required for the CAD/CAE apps that I have to run when on the road and working in remote locations.

I love my Macs...I have 3 of them, a trouble free Intel iMac 20", MB 2.0 CoreDuo and my much traveled, oft upgraded 15" PB G4 1.5. These machines are the best IMHO for imaging apps, music, video and publishing and I wouldn't be without them with these tasks at hand.

I am also a long time ThinkPad user and I've had some great ones along the way. The current T60p 15" UXGA FV is by far the best of the bunch. I need the larger screen and higher resolution for the work that I do when away from my workstation and this machine is hands down my favorite T'Pad to date for that purpose... great performance, fabulous graphics, decent battery life and lightweight (relative to having lugged an A31p around for 2 years). I liked the T43p that I replaced that with, but had horrendous noise problems with it that couldn't be resolved. Thankfully I was able to unload it and replaced it with my current T60p.

There is no substitute for screen real estate and resolution when working with some applications and I can't think of a machine that I'd replace this with in the current crop of offerings. The 9-cell does lend it somewhat "Rubenesque" proportions for daily carrying so I use a 6-cell day to day and a 9 as the primary when traveling. The short of it is that I'd rather leave behind other items of questionable necessity (razor, medication, etc) when traveling than sacrifice screen size and display quality for carry weight. YMMV.

My T60 arrived yesterday and it was a very solid machine. However, it had a pixel stuck on white dead center in the screen so I called Lenovo and returned it (wonderful customer service). It was for the best, now that I think about it, as I really ordered more system than I needed. I loved the feel of the T60 so I ordered a less powerful system (XGA, GMA950) and saved a few hundred bucks. I have a very powerful desktop system at home and don't really game with my laptops so it was the better choice for my occasional portable needs. I must say, the 14" is the size for me. Even my Latitude D620 I have for work seems big compared to the T60.

Personally, I really hate the widescreen aspect ratio... On any laptop, so the new macs really just don't do it for me.

I'm a freelance writer, and I spend my day in one editor or another. Despite what people say, being able to "view" 2 pages side by side isn't all that useful when you're just trying to write a magazine article, or even a novel, compared to the linear, no-fancy-doodads straightforward 4:3 ratio of the T-series 14 inch screen.

The view 2 pages side by side thing makes the font (of the text you're working with, not the ui) really small, and it's really bad for editing. It might just be a magnification factor issue, but there's really no point in having widescreen for certain tasks.

I've got a T22 right now, and the T60 will be my next computer.

I personally like the widescreen proportions when working on spreadsheets and in applications like Photoshop, Lightroom and Lightwave that have menus and controls consuming screen space. It sort of gives you the standard 4:3 that you're used to with somthing extra for toolbars and palettes. I've done the dual monitor thing as well, but that's not an option when traveling.

It is a personal preference though and to each his own.

Hm... I bet that was it haha. The laptop is already on its way back to Lenovo so if my new one does it then I will know what to do. Thanks for the link

I previously owned T43 15" and currently X60s. I liked both of the "worlds", the loftier 15" with 1400x1050 res. and currently, X60s. When at the office i use 24" external display and that solves the problem of 12" 1024*768 low-res. When I travel, I prefer to go lightweight. A style I prefer when alpine climbing

However, I am now thinking of eliminating the use of my desktop PC, which i only use occasionally for video editting. I am thinking of getting a T60 14" workstation, and I am wondering if the 14 incher will be a "big step up" from my X60s considering weight/size. I have had a chance of comparing 15" T43 and X60 12" side by side - the difference was HUGE. How do you think that is with 14" vs 12".

Does anyone have any suggestions as whether I should go with another, more powerful X60s or would a 14" with 1400*1050 res. be a wise choice. I use my laptop 60% in the office and 40% on the go.

14.1" T60 with optical drive = 5.2 lbs
12.1" X60s with ultralight LCD & slim line battery = 2.7 lbs

I've owned both. The T60 is a nightmare to carry, whereas the X60s is so light that I don't even notice it in my backpack.

If you can live with XGA on the move, then I would highly recommend getting the X60/s. Even the T60 14.1" is huge in comparison.

I agree, the T60 is a bit of a hassle to carry around compared to the X series. However, it's not really that bad, though I will be getting a X series next year as well

As for the screen, I'll prefer the external to any of the laptop ones for home use. If anything, the increased distance from the screen is worth it.
