Winxp Freeze when playing Ts video files/moving track point

I'm pulling hair out of this one.

Have not had any problem since i bought this T60 2623 D6U in May. Suddenly, i have many screen freeze which I had to hard reboot. While moving the trackpoint around, it sometimes will freeze and I can't press alt-clt-del...need a hard reboot

At least, it's not very easy to replicate the above problem. Here is what kills me more.

I'm trying to play HDTV .ts files using VLC player and it has never give me problem. Now, everytime I play .ts files, the screen will freeze after less than 1 minute and I have to hard reboot.

I have updated all the drivers, bios, etc... have winxp latest updates...
I thought I had memory problem but after I ran PC-Doctor, it found no problem.

Anyone can give me any clues, please.

try one thing..

i found a slowness issue with the gb wired net card. manage, devices, network card wired, properties go into settings, there is one called DEEP SLEEP MODE or something similar, its near the top, disable that and see if it helps.

thanks for the tips but it does not seem to fix

I watched the cpu process as it plays and it freezes even cpu is only 20%.

Also note that the same thing happens when i used ALshow to play a different .ts files.

Is this a video or codec bug somewhere? The file plays file on my desktop.

Is there any reason why the computer freezes while playing video file ?

that is strange because I had a very similar issue playing mpeg's in WMP 10. If I closed the player while watching a video, the entire system would freeze and require a hard reboot. the issue ONLY happened when I was running on battery power so I adjusted some power mgmt settings for the network adapters and that seems to have worked.

you might try disabling PowerPlay... power mgmt seems to create lots of problems on today's systems.

I think i found the problem. It's the mix-match of the RAM

I have the stock 512MB ibm and 1G Crucial stick. Either one will play the video just fine but if i put them together, they will freeze.

I almost always use AC adapter so I never have problem with power management.

Pretty sad that I need to find something to do with my 512MB stick now.
