S/N Sticker Stripped= Void Warranty?

#1 Post by corrado85 » Sun Feb 11, 2007 3:08 pm

I am purchasing a used thinkpad and the seller says the sticker from the bottom has been stripped. Would this then void the warranty of the laptop or can it still be serviced if something went to go wrong.

Thanks guys.

As long as you can access the S/N in the bios, it should still be covered. If you send it straight to Lenovo, they may disagree, but I would imagine that most service providers would cover it, seeing as how all they need is the model and s/n to get it covered.

You may want to ask lenovo directly though, before spending the money.

In my expereince that in itself is not adequate. An original purchase receipt from the original (primary) vendor would be needed as a minimum additional item, and even with that I would still expect to have to jump through a few additional hoops as well in order to establish eligibility for warranty.

The BIOS S/N can be reset with the HMD, or may have changed if planar has been swapped, so the case label is the only reliable "short form" indication of serial number for warranty purposes.

Cheers,

Bill
