Problem with “access connections”

Hi All, I have IBM (lenovo) T60 Type 2008ZR5 with Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG LAN Adapters.

Unfortunately I have problem with connection to WiFi LAN, where IP address is not obtain by DHCP; (I set the static address IP in Access connections). When I try connect to this network, I could not do it. Everything is ok and when Access Connection writes IP address to system settings it pause, and after 1 minutes it view the failure. Of course, when I set correct address to windows setting, I can obtain connection, but I could not do it each time.
In T43 I have never done that problems. I connect with a many different networks and it always works.
In T60 we have a lot of problems.

I have installed last driver wireless card = 10.5.1.75 from 2006-11-15 (Intel) and Access Connections with v.4.32, but I have still the same problems.

Could you help me? I do not know what I should do.

In all honesty, personally I wouldn't use the access connections program. I don't really know any real need for it. I use the Intel 3945 in both managed and ad-hoc mode without a problem - and I don't use the access connections.

I use Access Connections to manage and connect to both DHCP and static wireless networks without issue. I can't understand the immediate "dump access connections" responses. I have it running without issue on 30+ machines in my group...no ones complaining of problems. In fact, most of our users consider it a benefit of being allotted an IBM/LENOVO system as opposed to the other corp. std.

Some questions that I would have are:

Is this your personal wireless router or a corporate/commercial static network that is giving you problems?

Is Windows Wireless Zero Configuration Service disabled?

Do you have the proper permissions to edit the net settings on this machine?

Is there an IP address conflict with another system causing the problem?

A little more information might help us help you?

Start over !

I too have has simalar issues with Access connections.

Uninstall Access connections. Than, set up you wireless using the Windows network connections.
Once everything is working normally, you can again download and install Access connection.

You will now have BOTH the Windows and Access connections working together. The combination of the two work out great together...................

If you only want ONE program taking care of your wireless, I would advise to use the Windows software take care of things. You will have less aggravation.......................

There must be some people who get good service from this bloatware, but for the average user who is not roaming around among numerous locations AC adds complexity with lots of potential problems and few benefits. Windows own wireless networking program has been much improved over the last couple of years and will handle users who don't need to constantly switch among many WiFi networks.

I don't have any of the system problems you list however have had the experience of Software installer induced problems after new versions of AC have been downloaded. One of these problems was what actually led me to find thinkpads.com. In that case my old T42 (now sold and gone) got into endless CPU utilization loops using 100% CPU cycles and making the machine unusable. All because of this bloatware offloaded onto my machine more or less automatically when I simply accepted this inadequately tested code foisted off onto my machine by lenovo. If you do a forum search on Access Connections you will find many threads started by people whose machines functioned just fine before an updated verson of AC caused major problems. The CPU hyperutilizaton by AC has been documented by quite a few people independently here; reading through all the threads on this board would show you that many others have had problems with this software. For the record I'm glad you have had good luck with it.

And no, not a single thing changed in my own WiFi network or other things I control, no IP conflicts, nothing, just Lenovo bloatware that was inadequately tested before being dumped on their customers.

I uninstalled and reinstalled this program about 8 times before throwing in the towel and uininstalling it for good, then using the Windows Wireless program which functioned without a hitch.

I'm sure some people get good use out of AC or there would not be people like yourself defending it. Unfortunately it is not well integrated with the wireless driver updates and the way it is pushed off is only a hair less damaging than the recent PC Doctor disaster that corrupted many a thinkpad owner's registry.
