T60 Widescreen ordered, due a Vista upgrade. 64 bit option?
I bought a T60 widescreen last week to replace my T43 for day to day use (the T43 will do Linux, and eventually get passed down to the wife once she wants an upgrade from her X30).
Sadly, it comes loaded with XP. Actually, it's not that big of a deal...but I'm going to have to get the copy of Vista with it as well.
I currently have a pair of 32 bit Business Editions that I got through my campus for being a computer science student, and I know I'm getting a copy of Vista through Lenovo.
Is it possible, however, to request Vista Business in 64 bit edition instead of 32 bit?
I don't know that I'd use 64bit over 32bit, but, if I have the hardware, and know my peripherals will work (they will; I was running 64 bit XP until October when I went laptop only, and Vista drivers are out for my printer, which is my only non-storage peripheral), I'd like the option.

If I were you, I'd say "luckily it comes with XP" and stay the hell away from Vista...mybellyisempty wrote:Sadly, it comes loaded with XP.

Yeah, but I can run XP perfectly well in VMWare if I find some application that's not compatible (so far, the only one I've found that I use is the campus' VPN client, which is being updated, and Notebook Hardware Control, which isn't vital to me). Vista in VMWare works too, but doesn't perform as well.dr_st wrote:If I were you, I'd say "luckily it comes with XP" and stay the hell away from Vista...mybellyisempty wrote:Sadly, it comes loaded with XP.
I do need to move at least one of my systems to Vista so I can better familiarize myself and be able to provide tech support to my clients.
I can strip it down and get rid of some of the excesses pretty easily, while retaining functionality I would make use of.
I'm not paying for my copies, so it's not like I'm shelling out $$ for a worthless upgrade (I'm not that big of a fan of Vista yet).
But, that's not the point. What matters most is whether or not I can request a 64 bit version, rather than 32 bit.

You can request Vista 64bit here if you own a 32bit version (shipping charge might apply)

Other than shipping, is it free?thematrixz wrote:You can request Vista 64bit here if you own a 32bit version (shipping charge might apply)

Its only yay - a standalone Vista upgrade CD.mybellyisempty wrote:figured as such.
Do you happen to know what kind of CD they send out?
Is it just a standalone Vista upgrade CD? (yay), a full installation OEM Vista CD (double yay), or is it a preconfigured reinstall CD like Acer did with XP x64? (boo)
I also believe the MS website for sending out the 64-bit edition is only if you have purchased retail Vista, not for those obtained through Express Upgrade.
