#1 Post by ibm meister » Mon Feb 12, 2007 4:11 pm

Thinking of ordering a 8744J2U with the WSXGA+ screen... anybody have experience with one of these yet???

Is this viewable enough, or do we need to waoit for WUXGA?

Define "viewable". Lots of people here have the WSXGA+ screen and are happy with it. Some people have reported problems with light leakage and so, but these have nothing to do with the resolution.

As opposed to say, a 15" XGA, or even higher without flexview. i am concerned about not being able to see the picture unless you are looking directly at it. I reyturned a T60 15" because the screen viewing was so poor it was laughable

Well, it's not Flexview as you know it, and at this point no one knows whether WSXGA+/WUXGA will _ever_ be offered with Flexview (IPS) technology. Depending on your personal pickiness you may be other satisfied with the screen, or not at all. From what I've heard, the viewing angles on the WSXGA+ screen are good in terms of what you'd expect from a TN panel. Nothing even remotely close to IPS, but not as bad as the low end screens (like the 15" XGA, which I've seen on a number of R50e/T42 machines, that was just horrible).

I just received a T60 widescreen today with WSXGA+ and I find the screen to be very good (it's made by LG rather than Samsung). I adjusted the DPI to 110 but viewing angles and overall brightness were a pleasant surprise.

Thanks Hoya... that's encouraging! I assume pleasant surprise means good angles, good brightness?

not much else ibm meister. I'm really impressed with the size, weight, overal quality, speakers (seem much better than the ones on my 14" T60), and the fact that the LG panel is quite pleasing to my eyes. I'm still not sold on the widescreen though I think I'll grow into it with Outlook 2007 using 4 panes and Vista eventually displaying the dashboard. viewing angles aren't great but MUCH better than a MBP.

I'm really happy that I can swap keyboards with my existing T60 since I'm happier with Chicony than NMB.

I think they are fine but I'm also coming from a 14" T60 so it's all relative. if I were moving from a 15" FlexView T60, I would probably be complaining. this topic is very subjective but I can say that given how picky I am about panels the fact that I'm keeping this T60 is some indication that the quality would please most people. there's nothing more that I can add.

ibm meister: not sure if you pulled the trigger on a new notebook but thought I would share some pics of some recent T60's including a new MacBook Pro that I mentioned previously:
