My old t43p had 1600 by 1200 display. Now the t60p has something called a "wide viewing angle and high density flexview display with a max of 1400 x 1050. Doesn't seem like progress.

How can I get back to the higher resolution?

Running vista business. with 4 gigs ram, with ATI Mobility FireGL V5250 with 256MB

The supplies for the 1600x1200 displays were getting scarce, and eventually it was discontinued. Now there's only 1400x1050. At this moment, it's not clear whether 1600x1200 will be offered ever again.

There's a few places that sell refurbished/open box units. Unfortunately, I think that's your only option. That's what I had to do given I couldn't live with a lower resolution.

I have heard that they will NEVER come back but have a widescreen 1680x1200 T60 and then this summer a 1920x t60 but no more 1600x1200 std size 15"

17" Thinkpad? Good God, no. Seeing as WUXGA is already present on 15.4" Z61p, I see no reason why it can't be introduced to the T-series.

I just got my T60p with a 1400 x 1050 screen and figured that I just cannot live with this downgrade.

Now I ordered a 1600x1200 panel as replacement unit (FRU no 13N7076). It's not cheap, but in my eyes it's definitely worth it.

Me too, though I'm going to wait and see if the 15" panel will fit the next model before I bite the bullet. Maybe I'll just get a screen for the shelf for now - could always use it as a replacement in my 2623 anyhow.

i have a T60P with 1400x1050 IPS 15". i like it, but in the future i could see wanting the same quality display in 1600x1200. does anyone know if it will be possible to, provided a 1600x1200 15" IPS exists, to replace it and have it work with my machine? anyone?

fyi to any interested, that's a $846.72 part. mitch_f, do you know if this is an IPS type panel? are there any other quality/brightness differences with this vs. the SXGA+ one according to your knowledge or experience? if you've completed the swap, it's all ok?

sorry for not replying earlier, didn't check the forum for a few days.

I'm afraid I have to disappoint you: I put the order for the panel on hold. Why? Because when I ordered my T60p, I also asked them for the price of the panel, and they told me it's € 525 (~ 690 US$). On Friday before my post to the forum, I placed the order, and on Monday (after posting) they told me that they made a mistake, and the price is actually € 720 (~ 950 US$).

I already thought that 525 € was a lot, but 720 € is just too much in my eyes. (And these prices do not even include the 19% VAT in Germany.)

I think I would be ready to pay as much as 600 €, but not more.

To answer your questions: Yes, it is an IPS panel (it says so in the Hardware Maintenance Manual), and the upgrade should not be a problem, since at least my machine type (2007-CTO) is listed as "this panel fits for these machine types: ...". (Btw: They even offered me to do the replacement for me for another ~ €100)

cheeebs: Does the $846.72 price include VAT? Perhaps it would make sense for me to order it from the US, but I don't know if I could get a VAT refund and how much German customs would add to that price.

mitch_f, don't know about VAT. i took the FRU # and went through lenovo.com til i found how to order it. sorry, no link for you & no time now, but it should be easy to find if looking for online parts replacement ordering. i suppose it's possible that the price is different for which lenovo site you logon to (us, ex, etc.)

i am interested in more details about the panel. well, actually, i'm just interested in brightness/nits. i may buy if it is equal to the 1400x1050 panel.

That much I can tell you:
There are no duties taxes on IT hardware. If you have a company you can recover the VAT that you will have to pay in any case.

Not to ruin anything, but at least a year ago it was not possible to order from the US lenovo replacement par department and make them ship it overseas. I believe this still is the case.
But of course, if you know someone in the US...

And they only want 514 € for the panel, in contrast to my thinkpad dealer who wants 720 €.

So I am going to order it tomorrow.

Oh, and one more thing: Per hardware maintenance manual (and the German IBM store) it is a "15.0-in. UXGA FFS, BOE-Hydis" panel

2 - FRN 13N7076 LCD panel, 15in UXGA FFS, BOE-Hydis

can anyone comment on the difference? the first one doesn't show as correct when trying to order anyway... just want the info for when i get Sales on the phone.

BOE-Hydis vs. LG-Phillips... is BOE-Hydis UXGA considered superior? As long as I'm spending the cash to get a good upgrade I want to get it right the first time... this is an expensive part.

The best Color range laptop LCD can show. In short, if you have sRGB compatible devices. what you see on screen - that is what you get when printing; plus better colors

Looks like the sRGB is out of stock. The other one is $846. Let me know how the changeover goes! you going to swap the panels yourself?

i just ordered a Hydis UXGA 15" lcd panel from an outfit in new jersey that sells grade A refurbs (less than 5 pixel defects). it cost less than 1/3 the price as lenovo for the same exact piece. i'll let you know how the swap goes.

anyone know the best way to find a qualified service tech in austin, tx?

they didn't have sRGB, but they have this part by Hydis and Chi Mei both, for $250 + 18 s/h in ebay... search "UXGA".

at the risk of being mobbed by tonns of UXGA wanting forum members, How do you check which FRU your t60p has?
Edit:Ahh...nevermind. It seems only CTO models have the sRGB panels. Oh well

I too would like to know more about these LCD panels and would really appreciate any help you can offer in clarifying which of the following four LCD panels are preferred and best choices to go with:

1400x1050 15in SXGA+ DISPLAYS:

LG-Phillips 13N7078 (FRU042T0325)
BOE Hydis 13N7196 (out of stock)

1600x1200 15in UXGA DISPLAYS:

BOE-Hydis 13N7076 (in stock and still available)
BOE-Hydis 13N7194 (out of stock)

Why this is so important to me right now is due to major issues with my T60p LCD panel, Lenovo has agreed to replace my current LG-Phillips 13N7078 panel with another LG-Phillips 13N7078 or with the BOE-Hydis 13N7076 UXGA panel. While the BOE-Hydis 13N7194 is currently out of stock, if I am willing to wait, it may also be an available choice.

Since the choice is mine, I would really appreciate your help in helping me decide which of these panels is the best choice.
