Adobe 7.0 startup problem

#1 Post by selder » Thu Feb 15, 2007 2:51 am

Hello

first congratulations for the best web side about Thinkpads. I am very pleased to join a thinkpad team. I hope that anybody have similar problem.

My T60 is few days old and from the beginnig I have some problem. When I have done first instalation of my Adobe Professional 7.0 I could not startup the Adobe. When I try, it pop up error message "system error 3: The system cannot find the path specified". After instaling of Office 2003 the same was appear by InfoPath.

My Variables environment is set as default in Windows XP (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp). I notice that when I have done recovery treath there was no Temp map in my user profile, so I have made one by myself. I also notice that when I start Acrobat Distiller 7.0 in Temp map, temporary map (Acrobat Distiller 7) with *.tmp file is made, but error message still show up and program still not startup.

Until now as I already said, I have done complete recovery of my disk but problem stay the same.

And of course sorry about pure lanquage.

Offhand, I would guess that either Adobe 7 is using a file with the same name as another program, or the permissions got messed up in one or more of your folders or in the registry. You can view and change the permissions for files and folders in Windows SAFE MODE, but unless you know what you are doing you might have some difficulty finding the folder whose permissions you need to fix and in knowing exactly what permissions should be set for it. Similarly, the permission settings in the Registry Keys that can be viewed and changed with regedt32.

There is a chance that Event Viewer will give an indirect clue as to which program is interfering with Adobe. See if the error occuring when you launch Adobe mentions any file by name, then Google the file name to try and find out which programs use it. To get to Event Viewer, go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

It is possible you may need to consider reinstalling Windows fresh - either booting up into Rescue and Recovery to Restore Factory Contents, or using the Product Recovery Disks to do the same. You also could use a Windows install CD if you have the license and product key for it. If you use a Windows install CD, you should reformat the drive. After reinstalling Windows, install Adobe 7 first, then as you are installing or updating any other software, keep checking that Adobe 7 still works. This way you can narrow down which program may be in conflict with it.

After I finished typing the above, I did a search on this forum for Adobe and interestingly turned up the following. This indicates that Adobe shares the file libeay32.dll with the Intel Wireless driver. You might try uninstalling: Access Connections, the Intel Wireless driver, and Adobe 7, then reboot and install Adobe 7 and see if it works properly.
