Upgraded vid cards?

Any news on faster video cards? I really don't want to buy a new Vista notebook with the x1400 in it. That card has been around a while and is pretty low on performance compared to other options. My MBP from a year ago has the x1600 in it.

I've read that the v5250 is an x1700 in disguise.

I've heard that too. That's a big reason I'll probably go with a T60P. I kept expecting new T61s any day with the upgrade sales Lenovo keeps doing..but they've extended that sale 3 times now.

The v5250 is an underclocked x1700. It will not perform as fast as a x1700 with the stock drivers. You will need to get the 3rd party Omega drivers (based on the Catalyst drivers from ATI) in order to obtain higher performance. Unfortunatly, ATI doesn't currently provide drivers for the x1700, so as far as I know the Omega drivers will not support this card.

I can't test it out as I have a v5200 (which is a X1600), not a v5250. Now ATI does list a X1650 card that works with the Omega Drivers. I wonder if the x1650 and the x1700 are pretty much the same card, as looking at their specifications, they look almost identical.

Unless you are set on the T60p, you may want to look for a Z61p (Lenovo doesn't seem to be offering them right now), as they still have the v5200 card.
