T60 or T60p
T60 or T60p
Hi, folks. It's my first post here. After quite some research, it comes down to the following two models in my budget and I really can't decide...
T60 C2D 2G, 1G ram, 14.1 SXGA, X1400, 6 cell battery.
T60p C2D 2G, 2G ram, 15.4 WSXGA, V5250, 9 cell battery.
Both come with 7200 100G HD. I am not a big fan of the widescreen thing and don't really need the high-end video card since I will mostly program and massage some data on this machine. 9 cell battery looks awkward to me too. The only thing I like on the T60p is the extra 1G of ram.
Now, the problem is the price differential is merely 60, which is probably cheaper than one slot of ram. Which one shall I go for?
Many thanks.

The widescreen is quite useful for programming... especially when you're making function calls into APIs that require 20 variables passed... saves to much line wrapping!
The 9 cell battery is not that awkward, and the extra runtime is excellent.
Disclaimer: I own a 2623DDU and an 8741C4U, both 9-cell, both T60p... I prefer the 15" 1600x1200 IPS screen over the widescreen, but since that's not available anymore, the widescreen is the next best thing.
Plus, it says T60p... p for pimpin'. You want to be pimpin', don't you?

If this will be a machine that you take on the road frequently, I'd go for th 14".
If it spends most of its time on a desk, then go for the widescreen.
Just my opinion. I'm a programmer and I have both.
I'm surprised that there isn't a bigger price difference. The T60p is usually a lot more expensive than the T60.

Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

Welcome to the board,
If I were you I would've gone for T60p for following reasons:
-2 gigs memory, vista loves to eat.
-FireGL V5250 is newer, faster and also considered better. [withdraw more power from battery though]
-9 cell battery, 3 hours of more work.
Also depends on how you are going to use this machine.
I would've never given a second thought if difference was $60. But this is just my viewpoint, you/other users might disagree and I respect your/their opinions.
You're very welcome.

At the moment, the only widescreen T60p models are the preconfigured systems. You cannot build to order on the Lenovo website yet, but from talking with a Lenovo sales rep on the phone last week they should be updating the site so that you can soon.Zeus wrote:umm, no. Under the T series, they only have on listing for T60p, and there's no WS display option.
I bought the preconfigured 8744-C9U and I think for the configuration, it is an excellent price.
I lost count...

I agree that these are the most important criteria. And I remember that despite the bulkiness, the 15.4" T60 is not much heavier than the 14.1" T60, like 0.3 lbs (correct me if I'm wrong though).RonS wrote:If this will be a machine that you take on the road frequently, I'd go for th 14".

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
