hi, i've been struggling with power manager issues,

can anyone with a properly working T60p power manager export the following key from their registry for me?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg

preferably someone who has not added or deleted any power schemes?

looks like my power manager issues go beyond that powercfg registry key.

it has helped a bit, but when i create my own personal scheme, i can't actually select it.

at least now i can choose between the preset schemes and hear and see via fan and display brightness that the schemes are changing,

also, i can see the display brightness change when i plug in or unplug the AC power. the OSD will still show i'm at 7 out of 7, but i can see it change.

when i first got this machine a couple months ago, i didn't have these issues.

i still have redundant battery icons in the system tray, my system won't let me get rid of the blue one.

i originally had this post, but got no responses that worked.

i tried that a month ago... i guess i could try again... i dunno though,

the blue battery, i have it unchecked for always showing in the taskbar, but it comes up anytime i get off AC power

i also have a thinkpad power management driver installed, it shows up in my add/remove programs.

is that necessary too?
or did i add that after my mistake, and maybe its' redundancy is causing problems?

i'll try all different options...

realized you do need the power management driver,

uninstalled both, reinstalled both

nothing fixed

I would suggest you delete the existing powercfg key, then apply the key that Paul Pavlik emailed you (run the .reg file). That way you don't have any leftovers from your other old key. You may need to reboot after doing the above for the changes to take place.

IIRC, there are more than one powercfg keys. Search the registry with regedt32 to find the others. You will probably need to get the other keys from a helpful user such as Paul.

i have to go thru and manually delete and add each one don't i...?

they're easy to find with ctrl F and using searching powercfg, and F3 to find the next one. if you use this method you might be able to find a key that i'm missing as well?

the 2nd one, is a Power key, not powercfg, so it wouldn't be found via searching powercfg. i found it one key above one of the powercfg ones, figured it would be related to power settings.

i know it's hassle, it would be greatly appreciated,

Hello all,

I had the same problem with my Z60M a few days ago. I initially thought that getting rid of the reg keys would fix the problem but ended up with some corruption (thank goodness for backup).

To solve the problem try doing this:

1. Get a command prompt start->run->cmd
2. type: powercfg /restoredefaultpolicies

That worked like a charm. It restored all the default ThnkVantage schemes and allowed me to create/delete new ones.

thanks for the tip,
i'm not really sure how much it helped, i can make theme's, but still can't choose them.

but, in the process of trying your method, i figured out that by deleteing the key, and adding pav's key, and then editing and renaming pav's scheme, i could have my own scheme that i could switch in and out of.

i still can't get the screen to not dim when unpluggin AC power, maybe it's a flaw in the new version? 1.14... anyone else able to get the screen to not dim in that version???

Naw, you need to change a setting in the BIOS or in ThinkPad Configuration (you can change it in either place). In ThinkPad Configuration, click on the LCD icon, and change the Brighteness when running on batteries setting from Normal to High.

edit: wait, spoke too soon, the last thing is the redundant battery icons in the taskbar, i used to be able to not have the blue one show up, and just the green one next to the taskbar. the obvious method of unchecking always show icon in taskbar, doesnt work

allen: Just a comment. When you are on BATTERY power, the Blue Battery display will ALWAYS be on, even if the box is un-checked.

really? i coulda swore when i first got this thing... hmmm, maybe that is right.
