I have an audio problem on my T60.
After I had installed XP and SP2, I had to install the UAA from Microsoft, as well as Audio driver from the Lenovo web site.
I'm pretty sure the audio was working then.

Then I continued installing the drivers for the "unknown devices" from the control panel, and after I had installed all the devices (so that I had no problem in control panel anymore), I discovered the audio was not working anyway ...

So for me, one of the device drivers I installed made my audio not working anymore. The list of drivers I have installed after the Audio was :

Modem : 7fma06ww
Bluetooth : 7jba03ww and 7kfb02ww
Power management : 7kju08ww and 7ku702aw
Atmel : installed via update driver from control panel
Intel 82801 chipset driver : oss608ww

... so as I told I'm pretty sure one of those packages broke my audio ... but I'm not sure what to look at now.

The audio seems to be installed correctly on the T60 ... it is just not working.
On the Audio section, it shows "SoundMax HD audio" as device, but no sound is played.

Any clue what could be wrong ?

Is SoundMax the current default sound output device? Is the master / wave on mute?

Yes, soundMax is the only option listed in the drop down list, and it is not on mute.

Try rolling back.

It shouldn't be a software problem if device manager is not showing any exclamation marks. You can also try and remove the drivers manually from device manager and let XP detect it again.

How were you sure? Did you hear any sound at that time?. Also, to me only UAA is the thing connected to audio driver from the list or drivers from Lenovo's site (did you install manually or through thinkvantage ?).

Did you do oem installation of XP?

Lastly make sure if T60's sound button is not set to mute.

ok ... let me try answering some questions before I ask about QFE :

I have installed a version of XP SP2 OEM

I have then tried to install the audio driver from Lenovo's web site, but was getting an error about (Audio bus HD or something ...) I discovered I needed to install the UAA from microsoft, took it from Microsoft, then installed the Audio driver - I'm 99% sure I had audio at that time.

Then I continued installing the other drivers as listed on my previous post - and I think from there audio disappeared.

The audio is not on mute.


Now about that link you are giving, GomJabbar ... what is it about ?
Is it a known problem and this exe is solving it ? (Still need to givwe it a try) ...

I see in the README it tells :

Did I followed the wring pricedure by installing the UAA from Microsoft's web site then the Audio driver from Lenovo ?
Should I uninstall (if possible) the UAA and the Audio, and then install your fix ?

As I told, I took the UAA from Microsoft, then Audio from Lenovo web site and installed them.

I have good news, but would like to understand what happened.

first , I have tried launching the exe you were giving. After it has uncompressed everything and I launched the install, it presented an empty list of packages to install. I didn't want to install 1 by 1, so

I uninstalled the UAA I installed from Microsoft web site (High Definition Audio Driver Package - KB835221). during installation, It gave a list of programs that told could not run correctly anymore (bluetooth, ...)

Then tried going to the sound control panel, and there was no audio unit listed anymore (grayed out).

I tried reinstalling the Audio driver from Lenovo web site, and it told like at beginning that it was missing the UAA.

I reinstalled my UAA package on top of the - non working - audio driver. Went fine.

Just after installation, I got sound back (Issue resolved).
So it looks to me like it is really one of the packages I have installed after the UAA and Audio that broke the system ... ?!?

ok ... I have found something new, and would like to know what to do with this ...

I have discovered the sound problem could come from the fact that there is no real "link" between the 3 sound buttons on the keyboard (Vol up, Vol down, mute), and the software mixer provided by windows.

BUT If I press the mute button on the keyboard, the sound really mutes on the PC. The mute checkbx is not checked on the mixer.
The Vol up and down are also working, but again nothing changes in the mixer.

Also, pressing one of the 3 sound buttons on the keyboard is not showing any information on the screen (Vol level, ...) as it should, I think ?

The 3 hardware buttons do not change anything on the mixer. To see the information on the screen, you need the Hotkey utility.

Software and Device Drivers - ThinkPad T60, T60p

try to find the update by software installer.
