Gratuitous switch to 1024x768 when change monitor resolution
Gratuitous switch to 1024x768 when change monitor resolution
My new T60p has a very annoying problem which my T42p did not have. When I use Presentation Director or ATI Catalyst to change my monitor configuration from standalone laptop to an external DVI monitor at 1920x1200 and an external VGA monitor at 1600x1200 resolution, the screen first switches to 1024x768 before switching to the target resolutions, which totally screws up my window placements, sizes, etc. This also happens when switching back to the laptop screen. In fact, it happens when switching from the laptop screen to the laptop screen at the same resolution!
Is there any way to prevent this gratuitous intermediate switch to 1024x768? I know this isn't a necessary switch because it does not happen when using Display Properties to switch resolutions.

No, that's not my problem. My problem is that whenever I change resolutions, Presentation Director first switches to 1024x768 then changes to the new resolution. It takes longer and it screws up window placement.
Does anyone know of a utility for switching resolutions and monitor configurations besides Presentation Director and ATI Catalyst?

I have the same problem, only worse.
I have a T60p Widescreen running Vista Ultimate. I also have a MiniDock, attached to an HP L2465 monitor, on my desk at work. The T60p screen resolution is 1680x1050, while the HP monitor is 1920x1200. You see where this is going don't you.
Whenever I dock or undock, all hell breaks loose. In either direction, the screen flickers and bounces between resolutions like I've never seen before. I really don't know where it's going to stop and I have small wagers with my coworkers as to which resolution will finally come up. It can range from 1024x786 to 1920x1200, and everything in between.
Understand, I never touch Presentation Manager or the Catylist tools to get this to happen. It's simply the act of docking or undocking, either live or coming out of sleep mode. After about 20 seconds of bounching around, it stops and I then use Presentation Manager to set the appropriate resolution. Once set, I can then proceed to clean up the mess it made of my desktop. Widgets strewn about, icons jammed in the upper left corner, my sticky notes jumbled all over the place, and any open window resized and placed in a random manner.
It's really a sad situation, that someone at Lenovo, ATI, or Microsoft needs to address. I have no idea who is at fault, but this certainly isn't how the user "Experience" with a notebook and dock should be.

Hi,

Is the option to apply a scheme when docking enabled in your Presentation Director on Vista? It's grayed out on mine. See here.PRGeno wrote:I have a T60p Widescreen running Vista Ultimate.

WPWoodJr, i have a similar situation.
I have a T60P at 1400x1050
and I have a 32inch HDTV widescreen.
I wanted to test how and what resolutions work well on my HDTV, but whenever I test different resolutions on my HDTV, somehow my T60P screen temporarily switch to a lower resolution and then back to original. This always screws up all my icons on my desktop.
also when switching resolutions, my screen garbles up for a second and then flicks back to original resolution but now with my icons all over the place.
solution available?
or explanation on why this is occuring?

Mine is greyed out as well. I'm using a minidock at work, and a port replicator at home. Never does PM allow me to set that option.gunnar wrote:Hi,
