Upgrading from Intel 3945abg to Atheros abgn?

#1 Post by ms » Tue Feb 20, 2007 12:22 pm

Hello Guys,

I should have choosen the Atheros card right from the beginning but I though that the Intel card is the better one, but according to many people on this and the german thinkpad forum this is not the case and the Atheros seems to be the better cards. Since I'd like to have wifi in OSX I am considering replacing my Intel mini PCI card with its Atheros equvalent.

Now my question. Can I install the Atheros agbn card (41U4782) in my T60p which is only prepared for abg (without n) or do I need new antenna cables as well?
T60p, 2613-HQU, 2,33GHz Merom, 2GB, 160GB, FireGL5250

I wish I had the right info for you, but I upgraded card my T60 with the Thinkpad Atheros abg nothing special needed be done, as far as I know the T60p 's connection to the wifi card should be the same for the n and the non-n cards either Atheros or Intel.

But man do those Atheros cards ROCK under Linux!

I _think_ the N standard requires a third antenna

It does. Some have said that the T series has the third antenna installed already -- even if you have an abg card. But, I don't know for sure as the T60 I have has the atheros card. My Z61p on the otherhand has the Intel card and it does not have the third antenna.
