Given the performance of the 1.8" drives, I think two 1.8" drives would be a very bad idea.
If you really want a second drive and the performance is not critical, you can always pop in a Microdrive!

You are absolutely correct. Today, the 1.8" drives have abyssmal performance. But think about how bad 2.5" drives were a few years ago. I wouldn't want to go to 1.8 only to sit for 5 minutes waiting for it to respond, but someday, they will be the standard. Or then again, solid state may take over. For raw space, that will be tough though.
