My T60p is warped.

It won't lay flat. The corners bearing the Esc key and fingerprint reader are always planted, but the PgUp and infrared corners won't lay flat at the same time.

This seems like a pretty ridiculous reason to return the 3 month old machine, but it's pretty annoying.

Can anyone opine (with a degree of thoughtfulness) on whether Lenovo will care, and how I can best approach this issue with them?

Check to see if the palmrest is seated properly on the right and left sides. If not remove the palmrest and reseat it.

Hmm... shouldn't have anything to do with the palmrest if the problem is that the 4 corners of the bottom won't make contact with a flat surface at the same time.

First, of course, try it on several really flat surfaces, rather than just, say, your desk. Also, I assume that you verified that all 4 plastic pads are in place on the bottom. If one is missing that would do it.

If the warp is confirmed, IMHO it should be looked at by Lenovo as a service or warranty issue. In the T60 series there is a rigid metal "cage" that maintains the shape of the computer and that is supposed to prevent just that kind of warping. If the cage itself is bent, there is a problem.

There have been posts about the X60 not sitting flat at the front. It's a case of the screws being too tight. Try flipping the laptop over, undoing the keyboard/bezel screws (no need to take them out) then tightening them up again bit by bit. Did this on my X and indeed it now sits flat (previously I'd been using some extra rubber feet to have it stable).

i think they have some machines with this issue. they told me to turn it over and lay a straight ruler from back to front and then side to side to see if it sits properly. they said that was a good test and if it is a problem call up and tell them you know some systems have this issue

Of course, it's not fixed, and the "Description" field on the Repair Action Report reads that "Bios / Embedded Controller updates prescribed on IBM support page were performed on your machine to endure reliability and performance efficiency."

Which is great, because the specified action had absolutely nothing to do with the warp on the bottom of my case.

When I called, the tech said that there's nothing in his system other than what is on the report, and that he can't really tell if the first tech (who opened the ticket) made her notes understandable.

So, EasyServ is sending me a new box, and I get to do the whole thing over again. Which is just awesome.
