I am contemplating the purchase of a T60 widescreen. I have narrowed my selection to these three (as summarized with data from the Lenovo.com website with the major differences noted):

6371E5U 1.83GHz 1yr warranty, WXGA, 9 cell, 11a/b/g, Vista --- $1,299.00

87445BU 2.0 GHz 3yr warranty, WSXGA+, 6 cell, 11n28, XP --- $1,539.00

87414SU 2.16 GHz 3yr warranty, WSXGA+, 9 cell, 11a/b/g, XP --- $2,279.05

The difference of $240 between the 1.83 and the 2.0 GHz machines seems reasonable given the difference in processors, screen resolutions, and warranty.

However, the difference between the 2.0GHz and 2.16GHz of $740 (based on Visa discount pricing at the Lenovo website) seems extra-ordinary. Am I missing something?

I know that at another major website the price difference between the 2.0GHz and 2.16GHz machines is $358. That still seems like a lot. Is a 2.16 processor really be worth that much difference?

Is there a good side by side comparison somewhere to show the speed difference between these three dual core processors working in a T60 machine?

The other “problem” is finding a dealer who has any of the above machines in stock. The 2.16 machine looks to be the only one generally available. Does anyone know where I can find a 87445BU in stock?

Lenovo says that they would ship any of the above within 8-10 days. Can I count on that timeframe (or better)?

current owner of a T43 which "died" last week.
Now back to using my old T23 (quite a good ol' machine)

under IBM, delivery times were always a crap shoot..
i think lenovo is still the same..
sometimes you would get delivery in a few days and other times a few months..

try to order a machine off the shelf..
if you are open to all types there's more chance of a date on saturday night but if you restrict yourself to one particular type, less chance..!

i would get on the telephone and find a salesman who can see what is in the warehouse in china and then grab that one..

batteries, memory and HDD's are easily changed..

You might check Euclid Computers or Cost Central. They both carry many models in stock and are well rated.

I agree. As you can tell I am focused on the T60 widescreen with a 120 Gb HD running XP. I already have a 60 GB 7200 rpm HD on hand on which I am planning to install Vista and then using it as the primary drive on this new laptop. The 120 Gb drive will be my backup "ultrabay" drive. Then, if I don't like Vista, I can always switch drives.

I have made the rounds of all of the major website dealers. I think your suggestion for a call to Lenovo to find out what might be "immedidately" deliverable will be the next step.

Regarding availability: I ordered an 8744-5bu on 2/16 from Lenovo via phone and it shipped (early) on 2/22, supposed to arrive tomorrow, 2/26. So that is pretty good.

OTOH, it looks like the LCD will be the somewhat dreaded Samsung (according to the serial number). I am going to accept delivery anyway and if the panel drives me crazy, as it seems to do for some of the folks here, I'll consider my options.

I used the EPP, but I assume that has no affect on anything other than price.

be careful did you know that if you buy through epp all sales are final right? means no returns so make the right descition!
