Thinkpad T60 15" measured (not advertised) weight
Thinkpad T60 15" measured (not advertised) weight
Can anyone tell me what is the actual measured (not advertised) weight of a T60 15" Flexview.
Advertised weight for the T60 2007-FVG 15", 1400x1050 Flexview, X1400 is 2.38 Kgs (5.46 lbs). This sounds too good to be true.
My last two ThinkPad's matched their advertised weight ("weight", not "travel weight") when measured with its optical drives in place and without the power adapter:
T42 15" XGA 2373-F2G, 2.6 Kg, 5.97 lbs
T43 14.1" XGA 2668-F3G, 2.46 Kg, 5.65 lbs
However from what I read I would assume that the T60 15" Flexview would be heavier than my T42 15" XGA and not the other way around as specs suggest it.
I live in Portugal and have no way to evaluate a machine other than to buy it without any return policy.
At 5.5 Lbs including optical drive the 15" would be a no brainer.
Can anyone with this kind of machine and access to a scale please tell me its measured weight?
Let's agree that for comparison purposes a notebook weight should be measured with its standard optical drive in place (no travel bezel) and without the power adapter.
Thanks in advance.

The "up to" 5.5Lbs published weight is for the 14" models.
The 15" unit weighs up to 6.3Lbs depending on which battery is installed, 6 cell or 9 cell.
All published weights are with a battery and optical drive installed.

Dear Jehm,
The specs I refer to are not the up to variety wich for comparison purposes are useless.
If you go to Lenovo site and view the specification to a machine number you will get two numbers ("weight" and "travel weight").
For the specific machine that I mention (2007-FVG) the specific published/advertised weight is 5.46. That's why I find it too good to be true.
However, as I mentioned in my post, the specific weights advertised/published by IBM/Lenovo for my last two machines where actualy met when measured in a scale.
That is why I would welcome info from people based in actualy measuring that would confirm that indeed T60 15" Flexview is, in this case, lighter than T42 15" XGA.
As you can see in my post I also had bad luck with the T43 14" that I bought as aparently it is a lot heavier than most configurations.

I wish I had a shipping scale handy to answer your question completely, but i can tell you that my 15" T60P certainly feels like it weighs at least a pound more than my 14" T41P.
FWIW, I've always found the published weights for Thinkpads to be reliable.

My T43 with optical drive, both memory slots occupied, and 6-cell battery weighed 5.17 lbs. My T60 with similar specs weighs 5.22 lbs. Both were measured on a very accurate balance in our lab.

Model: 2007-72U
Advertised weight: 2.65 kg (5.84 lbs)
Measured weight: 2.708 kg (5.970 lbs) - with optical drive, 6 cell, and without power adapter.
It's slightly higher then advertised, maybe due to the extra ram stick I added and upgraded HD (5400 to 7200)? Here are some more measurements:
Measured weight: 2.862 kg (6.310 lbs) - with optical drive, 9 cell
Measured weight: 2.527 kg (5.570 lbs) - 6 cell, without optical drive
I would agree with you that the 2007-FVG at 2.38 kgs is highly suspicious, unless I'm missing something.

Thank you for your information, bwd, and in particular a measured weigtgh that will allow me to reach a decision.
The machine I mention does not have a bluetooth, wich is fine by me, but I don't think this could justify anywhere near the weight diference.
I must assume that there is a typo in the Lenovo published specs.
Does anyone out there has the possibility to suply a 14" true measured weight.
The Lenovo advertised weight for integrated graphis, XGA 14" is around 2.1 Kgs (4.82 lbs) wich again goes against my previous experience.
In the past I bought a T43 14" only to find out that it had almost the same weight as my T42 15". I wouldn't want this to happen to me again.
Thanks

I just weighed my coworker's 15.4" widescreen T60 (8743-CTO) and thought some of you might be interested in this information: It's 5.73 lbs with a 6-cell battery, an optical drive and two memory sticks, and without the AC adapter. So it's lighter than the 5.97lb 15.0" Flexview T60 that bwd has.
For comparison, my 15.4" Dell Inspiron 6000 is 6.60 lbs, and another co-worker's 15.4" Macbook Pro is 5.60 lbs. I think the current version of the Inspiron 6000, the E1505, weighs around 6.2 lbs, so they are closer to Lenovo's and Apple's competing models.

I have the exact model 2007-FVG, but I'm wondering why you say that it hasn't got Bluetooth because mine has...?
I also noticed the weight but I haven't got any place to weigh it. Maybe I'll take it to a Post office or to a store somewhere and just ask to weigh it
I'll be very disappointed if my dear T60 is too fat... Could it be made to lose weight somehow?
I'll have to rethink my love-affair with this machine if it's too fat...

Yes, replace the optical drive with a travel bezel. Also, you can use the 65W AC adapter instead of the 90W one.Jarko wrote:I'll be very disappointed if my dear T60 is too fat... Could it be made to lose weight somehow?

my T60 15W in the signature weighed 5.79 lbs on a scale at the post office which seemed accurate. without the optical the weight dropped to 5.36 lbs which is close to the starting weight of a T61 14W.
I noticed the new MacBook Pro released this week is now 5.4 lbs down from 5.6 lbs which is definitely the lightest 15.4 on the market, though I still have nearly a half million more pixels!

I just weighed a T60 w/ a 15" FlexView panel, 120gb 5400.3 hdd, and optical: 5 lbs 12.8 oz (5.8lbs)
I also re-weighed my T60 w/ 15.4" WSXGA+ panel and noticed the weight increased from 5.79lbs to 5 lbs 13.9oz (5.869) oz after I upgraded from a 120gb Fujitsu hdd to a 120gb 7200.2 Seagate hdd.
Edit: I should note that my T60 w/ Flexview does not have a fingerprint reader which might account for a small amount of weight.

This is very useful info -- thanks. Of course, the weight is 5.80 lbs. When "8" is followed immediately by a parenthesis, a smiley is automatically displayed! Is the battery 6-cell or 9-cell?hoya wrote:I just weighed a T60 w/ a 15" FlexView panel, 120gb 5400.3 hdd, and optical: 5 lbs 12.8 oz (5.
