Fujitsu MHV2100BH 100GB running on T60?
Fujitsu MHV2100BH 100GB running on T60?
Anyone have a Fujitsu MHV2100BH running in their T60? I have purchased this drive seperately (not from IBM) and wanted to check it will work.
Someone said it may need a specific IBM firmware to support the Active Protection system - is that true?
Thanks!

You should have no problems with that drive. I purchased an aftermarket Fujitsu MHV2040AH for my T42, and it works without a hitch. No firmware updates needed and Active Protection System does work (well at least the icon in the Notification Area indicates its working). AFAIK, firmware only needs to be applied (if possible) to hard drives used in the T43 series due to the SATA-PATA bridge chip unique in that series, and the resulting 2010 boot error.

selector,
i have the above mentioned drive that came with my z61m (9451-5hk)
so you shouldn't have a problem with it.
i have a favor to ask,
could you let me know if the drive makes a humming noise when idle?
my cpu fan at 2300rpm is very quiet. but this harddrive hum is giving me a headache. i know it's the harddrive b/c it stops when i let it spin-down...
your input would be appreciated.
thanks

Have it installed now but have not noticed any hum. Do you have the rubber brackets surrounding it installed?jkahng wrote:selector,

I have noticed it "rattles" when the Active Protection Mechanism kicks in - do you get that too?

2. when aps kicks in i hear a "click" from the harddrive and access stops. i don't notice anything else
3. rattle => no rattle but still humming...
thanks for the update,

I guess it could be described as a click. I did run a tool called Spinrite to scan the disk for defects before I installed the OS and it came back fine.
The rubber drive brackets I am referring to are shown here:

thanks for the info on the brackets. but my point is that i never took my machine apart in terms of harddrive. i'm running the harddrive that came with the machine which happens to be the one you upgraded to...
as for the harddrive diagnostic, thanks for your input. i guess it's not the drive itself.... i'm going to upgrade to a 7200rpm drive as soon as korean retailers get a hold on them.
thanks
