preferred DVD/DL media on T60p?

#1 Post by npish » Wed Feb 28, 2007 2:45 pm

I have a T60p with a Matshita DVD-DL burner, and I'm wondering what other owners may regard as preferred media for use with this drive, particularly with respect to dual-layer discs;

For example, after some trial and error, I came to realize that this drive does not seem to like Memorex dvd media, as I switched to Sony and have had no problems; however, last night I burned DVD video to a TDK dual layer disc (DVD+R DL), and even though the burning process completed successfully, the disc won't play in my Sony DVD player (I still need to rule out whether this is an issue with the player itself);

In any case, I'm wondering with what brands people have had the most consistent success.....thanks.

I guess I'll rephrase this: for those who burn dual layer DVDs on their T60p, what brand media do you use?

In order for most home DVD players to read a dual-layer disc burned on a computer DVD recorder (+R/DL), you must change the "Book Type" of the disc when you burn to DVD-ROM, not the DVD+R/DL that will be the default "Book Type" when you burn. You can't change the "Book Type" on the TP Matshita drives. I had to get an external NEC drive to do this.

wow, thanks for that info, f1reverb; very interesting...so with the Matshita drive, there's no way via software to change this four bit field to a DVD-ROM type? I would think that sort of limitation would be more an issue of software, not hardware, no? Perhaps a more advanced burning utility that allows you to edit this header in the burning process?
