T60 graphic card?

#1 Post by t60user » Fri Mar 02, 2007 8:20 pm

Apologies if my questions sounds silly.

My T60 comes equipped with ATI x1300 graphic card. However, as I'm running Linux, ATI x1300 only comes with the closed source fglrx driver. I prefer the open source driver though. As the T60 use the Intel 945 chipset, I'm wondering if it's possible for me to detach the x1300 and use the Intel 950 graphic (if it's onboard)? I've fiddle with the BIOS and found an option for display using "Internal/PCIe". Wonder this have to do with the onboard Intel 950 graphic?

I'm prepare to remove/downgrade the ATI x1300 to get the Intel 950 graphic going if this is a viable option. Wonder if this is at all possible?

Thanks in advance.

Hello t60user, and welcome to the forums.

However, I have bad news for you as I don't believe it's possible to switch graphics on an existing ThinkPad. The selected graphics option is surface-mounted on the motherboard, and you are pretty much stuck with it.

Your options would be to (1) trade ThinkPads with someone, (2) trade motherboards with someone, or (3) buy a used T60 motherboard with integrated graphics.
