This does not make sense. They won't send you a set free unless you are under warranty and have some problem with the machine. They will send a set if you pay for them though, not sure how much it would be.

There is no place that I know of to download the images of the CD's.

Does Lenovo sell machines without the Microsoft tax (read without any Windows version pre-installed - aka OS-less)?

If your machine did in-fact come without Windows license how can you expect to have a free copy of Windows by using the recovery media if Lenovo were to ship them to you?

Yes, a few models of the T60/p are "Linux-ready" and only come with a DOS license, which is pretty much useless.

pheebz, what's the 7-character product code of your T60?

Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)

I think one thing we are missing is that the price Lenovo asks for the recovery media does not include the price of the Window license which gives you the right to install and use that Windows version from that media on exactly one machine at a time.

As far as drivers are concerned, once you have your favorite version of Windows version installed, you can directly go to Lenovo's website and download pretty much all the drivers you need/want. You can even use a different machine to download the drivers and then use a USB flash drive or some other medium (e.g. CDROM) to install to your laptop. Even for people who have the recovery media but want to install a clean copy of Windows use the same method for at least the ethernet or wireless driver and the rest can be downloaded directly on the target machine.

Can post the R & R disks request in our market place forum. I do know that BillMorrow has a T60p. ;-) Maybe you can send a PM to BillMorrow and buy the recovery disks from him. :-)

Yes, for XP they're all the same except for the language.

But it would be illegal. The T60 XP recovery discs should only be used on machines with an XP COA sticker.
